Clara Berta: Ethereal
October 22, 2022 - October 28, 2022
Opening: Friday 21st of October 2022 4PM - 6PM
Artspace Warehouse is pleased to announce Clara Berta: Ethereal. This solo exhibition of new, original artworks by Clara Berta showcases the artist’s ability to illuminate the canvas with striking gestures—paint expanding from the center, colors seeking unforeseen paths to regions across the plateau of canvas. Berta’s trust and aplomb with paint is a master stroke yielding fields of colorful bounty for the viewer to feast on. Considering a careful balance of negative space with dynamic positive space, Berta’s paintings sustain a serenity amidst a vibrancy, a stillness among ambition. One might come to the word “ethereal” in experiencing the paradox these paintings hold, leaving the viewer with both bewilderment and delight.
Clara Berta began her career as an artist after a very challenging period of loss. She discovered her passion for art while she was completing her studies in Psychology at Antioch University in Marina del Rey, CA. After the death of her husband, she returned to painting as a form of therapy.
Berta’s paintings explore themes such as the ebb and flow of memory, the significance of personal heritage, the passing of physical time, desire, grief, and love. Her Hungarian heritage pushes through in the joyful use of traditional clothing colors and the predominant theme of water and its natural healing properties. Often including reminders of her travels, her abstract works express unexpected sequences of patterns as well as distortion of perspectives and subconscious spaces.
“Encouraging an emotional response to color and form is the aim of my practice as an abstract painter. Inspired by the vibrancy and serenity of the natural world and the balance of forces within it, I create works that contain flowing organic forms and energetic eruptions of color.”

Manipulating the canvas with several layers of texture paste, mixed media, and acrylic paint, Berta will work and re-work her canvas’ dimensions. Through her creative practice, she has found healing. Berta extends this blessing by offering to her community safe spaces for troubled teens and women to heal through the meditative process of painting.
Clara Berta’s dynamic and highly textural abstract works have been exhibited across the United States and collected worldwide.
“Clara Berta’s Minimalism series is the perfect antidote to the upsetting times we live in today.
It provides a respite from the storm; one can relax just by enjoying the organic beauty of her paintings.”
