Ama Liyanage
Ama Liyanage, a contemporary artist and printmaker based in Canada, creates whimsical and detailed paintings that tell stories and evoke humor.
Rediscovering creativity in adulthood, Liyanage uses art as a means to relax and move beyond a productivity-focused sense of self-worth. Her work amplifies the voices of women of color, challenging traditional labor-centric portrayals and drawing inspiration from French and Dutch Impressionism.
Liyanage has exhibited her work in several exhibitions and art fairs including the Toronto Artist Project and won the first prize award at the Homer Watson House & Gallery Juried Show.
Her art reflects her experiences as a Sri Lankan in Canada, adding depth and nuance to her pieces.
