About

Ivana Milosevic creates vibrant, yet soothing water landscapes that emphasize color and texture. She uses palette knives and brushes to carve details into layers of paint. They reflect a form of abstraction through the simplification of composition and reduction of all unessential elements. Milosevic pays special attention in her artworks to dispense with any representation of land or sky, only adding silhouettes of people to emphasize the meaning of perspective, the flow of time, and the speed of life. By using expressive brushwork, Milosevic strives to make the viewer feel in the present moment and not in the past.

This original 24-inch square artwork is painted by internationally collected Serbian artist Ivana Milosevic with acrylic paint on canvas. It is wired and ready to hang. Ivana Milosevic was born in Serbia in 1972. In 1998 she graduated from Belgrade University with a Master’s degree in Architecture. Since 2000 she was practicing architecture in the Municipality of Trstenik specializing in urban design and city planning. As a deputy Mayor of Trstenik, Ivana transformed the city into a modern and contemporary living environment.

Ivana started painting in 2010. Since then she has exhibited her artworks in group and solo shows in Serbia and internationally. She uses an impasto technique with a palette knife and brushes to create her multi-layered textural artworks.

“Through my professional practice, cityscapes are the main theme of my artworks, I explore the structure of the city, explore the construction, and visual impressions, through various problems in the city. I put layers and layers of oil paint on canvas, trying to rebuild the parts and pieces, life and its beauty!”

Ivana pays special attention in her artworks to the city’s building structures and facades. She adds soothing silhouettes of people to emphasize the meaning of perspective, the flow of time, and the speed of life. By combining architecture and urbanism with figures and crowds, Ivana strives to make the viewer feel in the present moment and not in the past.

Ivana Milosevic

Ivana Milosevic, born in 1972 in Belgrade, Serbia, holds a master's degree in Architecture from Belgrade University. With over two decades of experience, she is a well-established architect in the Municipality of Trstenik, specializing in urban design and city planning. As a deputy Mayor of Trstenik, she is credited with transforming the city into a modern and contemporary living environment.

In 2010, Milosevic discovered a passion for painting, which has since become a second career for her. Drawing on her architectural background and interest in urban planning, her paintings feature loose cityscapes with a focus on structure and perspective. By using palette knives and brushes to carve the buildings' structures through layers of paint, she creates depth and texture, bringing the city to life on the canvas. Milosevic also adds small shadows of human figures in her work, imbuing it with a sense of familiarity and bustling life.
