About

Bettina Mauel expresses vitality and sensuality in her abstract and figurative paintings. “I paint what I experience,” she articulates. “This includes landscapes, dancers and people in motion, capturing them at a particular moment in time.” Her artworks often incorporate a sophisticated and vibrant sense of movement.

This original artwork is 31-inch tall by 21-inch wide. Mauel created this one-of-a-kind painting by using red ink on French Linen paper to capture the movement of her subject and added refined minimalist lines in black graphite to indicate the body with a balanced subtlety. It is signed by the artist on the front. It is not framed. Convenient local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable US and worldwide shipping. A certificate of authenticity is included.

Bettina Mauel was born 1959 in Wuppertal, Germany. She studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Professor Gerhard Richter. Bettina lives and works in Cologne, Germany.

In 1984 she was asked by the city of Wuppertal, Germany to paint scenes of the dance theater of Pina Bausch. This had a major influence on the selection of themes in her imagery. Instead of focusing on spectacular poses, she honed in on the in-between: feelings, thoughts and fears.

She has presented her work in numerous exhibitions and art fairs throughout Europe, North America and Asia and her art has been acquired by many notable museums and public institutions.

Bettina Mauel

Bettina Mauel

Bettina Mauel, a German artist born in 1959, studied under the tutelage of Gerhard Richter, one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. Throughout her artistic career, Mauel has been driven by a single, inexhaustible theme of capturing the fleeting movements of our ever-changing world, exploring the relationship between perception and impermanence. Whether the subject is dancers, cityscapes, landscapes, or pure expressionistic brushstrokes, Mauel has exemplified herself as an expert in the acute perception of ephemeral moments.

In 1984, Mauel was commissioned by the city of Wuppertal to paint scenes of the dance theater of Pina Bausch, an experience that had a profound influence on the selection of themes in her art. Rather than focusing on spectacular poses, she pays careful attention to the spontaneous movements in-between, capturing a resonating rush of color and form. Her impromptu paintings combine a long tradition of Eastern scroll painting, expressionist sketching, and fashion illustration.

Mauel's brightly colored artworks reveal the act of painting itself, and she has received numerous prestigious art prizes for her work. Her art has been featured in exhibitions throughout Europe, North America, and Asia and has been acquired by notable public institutions.
