Paul Westacott's artwork engages in a dialogue between color, form, line, and repetition, all of which serve as the vocabulary to explore intricate visual relationships. The exploration of these relationships lies at the core of Westacott's artistic practice. The British artist places a strong emphasis on geometry and color, drawing inspiration from the radiant California landscape as he crafts his abstract minimalist paintings.
“For me, the joy and challenge of abstract art lies in the
exploration and discovery of open-ended relationships. I hope to make art that
asks questions rather than provides answers, inviting a multidimensional
response with no 'right' or 'wrong' interpretation. Allowing the viewer to have
their own subjective relationship with the work based on their own unique
passions, tastes, perceptions, and experience.”
Westacott grew up in northern England and studied at the
Cardiff College of Art. The rainy climate he grew up in shaped his
appreciation and captivation with the light and color of Southern California.
When creating his works and choosing colors, he seeks to have the colors
themselves inspire joy and transformation.
