Kristina Fjellman, a Minnesota-based visual artist and performer, finds her passion in projects that seamlessly blend these two artistic realms. Her sculptures have graced exhibitions across the Midwest and Twin Cities, earning her the prestigious Jerome Fiber Art Project Grant for 2010-2011 at the MN Textile Center. Her performances, a staple of Twin Cities productions, include notable collaborations with local theater companies such as Sandbox Theatre and The Winding Sheet Outfit. Noteworthy among these is her role as Project Lead for the mesmerizing performance/installation pieces, "The Golden Record Project" and "Yes No Maybe" with Sandbox Theatre, as well as her contributions to the acclaimed remounts of "Theater of the Tiny Clandestines."
A St. Catherine University alumna with a MAED in Art and Theater Education, Kristina is deeply embedded in the artistic community as an ensemble member of Sandbox Theatre and a founding member of The Winding Sheet Outfit.
In her artistic journey, Kristina delves into the concept of parts forming a whole, a notion rooted in nature's grand design. She meticulously crafts each element, celebrating their individuality, yet recognizing their collective power when brought together. From the subtle shifts within the human body to the cosmic dance of galaxies, Kristina seeks to capture the essence of movement within her creations.
In her recent works, Kristina explores the interplay of depth and layering, skillfully manipulating light and shadow to accentuate the intricacies of color, texture, and form. Embracing a more painterly approach, her pieces pay homage to abstract shapes and colors, offering a captivating glimpse into her artistic evolution.
Inspired by the vivid palette and dynamic compositions of the natural world, Kristina's artwork serves as a bridge between imagination and reality. Each piece in her collection is a testament to her boundless curiosity and profound connection to the universe that surrounds us.
