Krisanne Souter, born in 1979, is a Canadian artist exploring the connections between materials, nature, and feminine symbols. Growing up as a wilderness explorer and later training as a florist and potter, she developed her artistic skills at Sheridan College while raising her family in Northern Ontario.
In her art, Souter weaves together elements of nature and ancient feminine archetypes, such as the Mother and the Mystic. Botanical themes, playful elements, and unexpected surprises are common in her work. Drawing from her background in floristry and pottery, her creations are vibrant, intuitive, and dreamlike, inviting viewers to explore the tangible and intangible aspects of existence.
Driven by curiosity, Souter embraces materials and techniques that have a life of their own, creating a sense of wonder and intimacy in her pieces. Ultimately, her art sparks curiosity and invites viewers on a journey of introspection, evoking a sense of wonder in those who encounter her work.
Now based near Lake Superior, her surreal and abstract artworks, mainly in water-based media on paper, are celebrated internationally through exhibitions like the FCA Toronto Invitational Juried Art Show.
