Jodi Miller

Jodi Miller’s dreamy landscape paintings are deeply influenced by her upbringing on a family farm and her extensive global travels during a 20-year career as an aerospace engineer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Drawing on these experiences, her art explores how the spaces we inhabit shape our sense of connection and belonging.

“To discover, to reconnect with my roots, to acknowledge the vast possibilities that lie ahead, just beyond the horizon…that is why I create.”

Her impressionist works, though imagined, resonate with a sense of familiarity, blending abstraction with atmospheric perspective to create awe-inspiring spaces where time feels suspended. By layering paint with expressive movement and depth, she invites viewers to engage with these evocative scenes, encouraging them to explore the narrative and forge their own emotional connection within the landscape.

Miller has long been captivated by the vastness of the sky, a fascination that began on the wide-open prairies of her youth and continued throughout her time in the Air Force. Her work reflects this enduring connection, exploring the idea that, no matter where one is in the world, the same sky reaches across distances, linking loved ones and distant places. Through her art, Miller invites viewers to reflect on these universal connections and the shared experiences that bind us.

Jodi Miller’s artistic process begins with a careful study of the sky and landscape, using her camera and notebook to capture the subtleties of cloud formations and the interplay of light and atmosphere. As she traverses diverse environments—whether on long drives, train journeys in foreign countries, or familiar walks along the water near her home—she documents the emotional responses these vistas evoke. Each new "big sky" composition becomes a vehicle to revisit a specific place or memory, which she translates onto the canvas through gestural brushstrokes and rich textural techniques.

Since 2019, Jodi has contributed over $15,000 to charities globally. Reflecting her commitment to fostering connection through her art, a portion of all proceeds is donated to organizations dedicated to building community and strengthening bonds.
