Erin Hammond is an accomplished artist who was born in 1982 in Milwaukee, WI. Hammond grew up in a creative household that nurtured her artistic abilities from an early age. She honed her skills throughout her formative years and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art Painting, Sculpture and Theatre from the prestigious University of Wisconsin. Upon graduating, Erin's talent caught the attention of a local downtown dealer who quickly recognized the promise of her work. In 2010, she relocated to Los Angeles to pursue her artistic career further. In 2013, Hammond was recognized as a top-rated artist in the largest indie art competition in the US.
Soon after she was introduced to an art dealer in Beverly Hills who recognized the potential of her work. Within weeks, Erin's art was being sold globally, and her career took off.
Erin's work is characterized by a bold and dynamic style that has evolved from figurative to abstract expression over the past few years. Her unique approach to art-making is informed not only by her personal experiences but also by the collective experiences of humanity. She is a voracious reader, and her studio is filled with art history books, scripts, and journals that inspire her work.
As an artist, Hammond draws inspiration from a broad collaboration of artists, including Edgar Degas, Käthe Kollwitz, C.Y. Twombly, Rodin, and Stephen De Staebler, each with a distinct characteristic that she admires. Her style can be classified as emotionalism and romanticism with a contemporary streak. She uses color and its placement to create a controlled coloring book or a choppy, unresolved drawing. Hammond's subject matter ranges from women to abstract emotionalism, and she loves to express the surreal and unflattering aspects of life.
Through her paintings, Hammond explores the inner versus outer experiences of humanity, using alternating layers of pencil, charcoal, oil, and acrylic to create a roughness of line that reflects the unfinished nature of the artistic process.
Erin believes that creativity is a collaborative effort that involves listening to and learning from one's surroundings. She is a firm believer that there is nothing new under the sun and that every artist is influenced by their environment. As such, her art is an act of both creation and surrender, a testament to her ability to tap into the creative flow that exists within us all.
Her artworks have been exhibited at numerous international art fairs and galleries. Hammond’s original paintings have found a home in a growing number of major private collections worldwide.
