D'Arcy Bellamy

With a career spanning 20 years in creating steel sculptures, D’Arcy Bellamy is an established and well-known metal sculptor. Bellamy focuses on making large, human-scale, abstract, minimalist, and inspirational sculptures exclusively from steel pipe. Bellamy’s work is characterized by flowing lines, negative space, originality, movement, and shadows. The work has a spontaneous and playful nature, giving the viewer a sense of discovery, connectedness, and positive emotional response. They engage the senses of sight, touch, and wonder.

Bellamy is a self-taught artist. After growing up along the East coast, going to college in the Midwest, and spending 2 years in the Caribbean, Bellamy began to explore art in 2002 at The Creative Arts Center in Dallas where he quickly found his medium of steel pipe as a metal worker. Over the last 20 years, Bellamy has lived in Colorado, Dallas, and Boise, ID. His award-winning original sculptures have been exhibited and collected in private and public places throughout the United States.

Bellamy is a self-taught artist. After growing up along the US East Coast, going to college in the Midwest, and spending 2 years in the Caribbean, Bellamy earned an MBA and has had a successful career in sales and design. Bellamy began to explore art in 2002 at The Creative Arts Center in Dallas where he quickly found his medium of steel pipe as a metal worker. Since then, Bellamy has spent evenings and weekends making sculptures from steel pipe. Over the last 20 years, Bellamy has lived in Colorado, Dallas, and Boise, ID.

Bellamy focuses on making human-scale, abstract, minimalist, and often kinetic sculptures exclusively from steel pipe. Bellamy’s work is characterized by flowing lines, strong negative space, originality, movement, and shadows. The work has a rough, unrefined, spontaneous, and playful nature, often resulting in a smile from the viewer.

Bellamy continues to develop his expertise as a sculptor by making new and innovative creations and exhibiting that work. With his unique process of subtractive fabrication, Bellamy has created a large body of original, engaging work that is varied yet consistent, becoming more refined over time.

Bellamy says the following about his process: "Most metal sculptors work in an additive process or one that involves casting. In a process I call subtractive fabrication, I work more like a stone carver, removing material and adding mostly space and line. I enjoy releasing the energy that is stored in each length of pipe."

Bellamy’s original sculptures are exhibited in galleries in Boise, ID, and at Artplex Gallery Los Angeles, CA. His works have also been exhibited in galleries in Dallas, Aspen, and Boise and have been collected throughout the USA.
