Clara Berta is a Hungarian-American
contemporary abstract painter based in Palm Springs, California, USA. She has
been practicing art since 2000 and has become known for her large-scale
paintings that embody the vibrancy and tranquility of the natural world through
her use of organic forms and layering of harmonious colors.
Clara Berta began her career as an
artist after a very challenging period of loss. She discovered her passion for
art while she was completing her studies in Psychology from Antioch University
in Marina del Rey, CA. After the death
of her husband, she returned to painting as a form of therapy.
Berta’s paintings explore themes such
as the ebb and flow of memory, the significance of personal heritage, the
passing of physical time, desire, grief, and love. Her Hungarian heritage is pushed through the joyful use of traditional clothing colors and the predominant
theme of water and its natural healing properties. Often including reminders of
her travels, her abstract works express unexpected sequences of patterns as
well as distortion of perspectives and subconscious spaces.
Manipulating the canvas with mixed
media and acrylic paint, Berta will work and re-work her canvas’ dimensions. Through
her creative practice, she has found healing.
Clara Berta’s dynamic and textural abstract works have been exhibited and
collected worldwide, including in Europe, China, Dubai, and notably at the
Chiba City Museum of Art in Japan. Her work has been featured in high-profile
film and television productions on prominent networks such as Disney, 20th
Century Fox, ABC, and CBS.
Clara
Berta’s Minimalism series is the perfect antidote to the upsetting
times we live in today. It provides a respite from the storm; one can relax
just by enjoying the organic beauty of her paintings.” – Dale Youngman, Art Curator
